I Can Do It ! Can’t I ?
Right now you are builder, an architect, or designer. You are in charge of your own destiny. You can have a:
- good and happy life
- hard and discontented life
All of our decisions have a consequence remember that. From here on out think about what you are about to do.
When you build a house you start with a foundation, then you begin to build on it.
Now that foundation needs to be strong and firm. If it has a crack it will not stand. You can build on it and it may look pretty good but underneath it is cracked and it will not be safe. Years down the road it could fall.
We all have a foundation; think about this for a minute.
- Our life up to now
- Has it been with Jesus in it?
- Not with Jesus in it?
The Wise and Foolish Builders Matthew 7:24-27
24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
If we hear the words of the Lord and we listen and put them into practice. Learn from them and build our lives on them we will be like the man that built his house on the rock. Our rock would be Jesus. When the rain comes which to us would be the storms of life, we will be able to stand because our foundation is built on the Rock. (Jesus)
Everyone that hears the words of the Lord and does not do them will be like a man that builds his house on the sand.
Have you ever just stood in the sand and the water comes up and washes the sand out from under your feet. Can you just imagine what it would do to a house with no foundation?
OK now let’s try and figure out what your foundation is. How have you believed up until now? What is the base of your belief?
What category do you fit in, and what is your rock?
- You have to have money to be happy
- Money is my rock
- It depends on my circumstances around me if I am happy or not
- Sometimes I have a rock and sometimes I don’t
- What people tell me
- The way people see me is my rock
- Nothing ever works for me, I am a loser and things will never change
- No rock at all
I am sure there are other beliefs that I have not listed here but you get the idea and so now try and see, what your belief is, what is your rock. What do you build you life on?
Take a few minutes to think about it.
We all know the storms are going to come. We can’t stop them. What we need to do now is start building our foundation. If you have found that your foundation is not built on the word of God there is a very good chance that you will fall in a storm.
If we are wise we will make all our decisions by what the word of God says. If we don’t know then we need to look it up. That is how you start to build a foundation.
The wise man looked for the rock
The foolish man looked for a quick fix. Oh this looks like a good spot. And then started building without checking things out first.
When we begin to wonder if we can do something in our lives we open the door to doubt. When we open that door we open the door to fear, regret, and then that opens to even anger. We can get angry with ourselves, with God, with others around us.
The word says;
Philippians 4:13 (New International Version)
13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
So the next time you feel like you can’t do something look up scripture that says you can. You will begin to believe that OH yeah, I can do all things through Christ who give me strength. Remember what the Lord gives you no one can take it away. You can give it up if you want to but no one can take it. The strength the Lord gives you is yours.
Jesus does not want you to be unhappy He wants what is best for you. He wants you to be full of confidence in Him, and to have peace, and Joy
John 15:11 (New International Version)
11I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
Jesus is telling this to His disciples. He wants us to be full of joy, to be strong, to walk in peace and live life to the fullest.
Philippians 4:4-8 (New International Version)
4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
If we are in need instead of doubting look it up in the word. What does the word say about it? The word tells us not to be anxious about anything but by prayer and petition let our requests be known to God. He will give us peace, and He will guard our minds. So we need to decide what to set our minds on.
8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Well there you go. Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable… these are what we want to be thinking about. Not what is wrong in our lives? We don’t have to live like that anymore. We are free from worry and doubt. Set your mind on the good things.
Philippians 4:11-13 (New International Version)
11I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
This was what Paul said. it is not the circumstances that make him happy or sad. When we are grounded in Christ and our foundation is on the word of God and we build on what that word tells us we begin to live a life full of contentment, love, peace and joy. What better way could we choose to live.

Dear Lord, I pray for you to teach me to live a life of contentment. I give you all my anxieties’ and worries. I will from this day forward build my life on the foundation of the word of God. Please help me to understand how to do that and to follow it through. How to apply your word to my life daily. Help me to see the positive and not the negative. Thank You Jesus.
