Prayer Corner

               prayer request

Prayer is a very important part of our everyday walk. When we pray we are actually talking to Jesus. We are communicating with Him. We do not always have to be asking for something when we pray. I know there were times in my life with my natural father I would need something and go to him, but then there were times that I just wanted to talk, to visit. My dad always got up in the morning about 4 or 5:00 A.M. and he would sit and drink coffee in the kitchen.   Everyone else would be sleeping. Sometimes he would go down to the local café and have breakfast with friends. If I wanted to I could get up and talk to him any time. If he was going for breakfast I could go with him. I would always order pancakes and never eat them all. He would say oh I see your eyes ore bigger than you stomach. Then he would laugh and we would go on. My dad was an alcoholic but these were the times he was not drinking. He was a good man but he had addictions he did not know how to get rid of. At the time I didn’t either. These were the good memories I had of him. Unfortunately he was not always around. I missed him when he was gone. Or out getting drunk. I know I could count on him when he was sober but not when he was drunk.

I had to learn after I received salvation in my life that we have a heavenly father. One that is always there, never leaving, never drunk, always dependable, ready to talk to me or listen to me. He cares about everything I care about. He wants me to get up early and visit with Him. Sometimes I get so busy I don’t have time to visit. He is always there but I am not. He is up every morning waiting for me to get up and come to Him. Just to talk, or visit, or maybe to bring my requests to Him. He loves to answer my requests. As I visit with Him daily I get closer to him. I remember when I would go to breakfast with my dad, or even if I would just get up early with him we would talk about things we would not have time to talk about later in the day because of the busyness of the day. Our relationship would be stronger because of it. I know how he felt about things and he knew how I felt, because we told each other.

We communicated with each other. I know you may be thinking, well you can say that but I didn’t have that with  my dad. We did not communicate. I couldn’t trust him…

I couldn’t trust my dad either in a lot of ways, and yes I am blessed at the dad I did get. It could have been much better but I guess it could have been worse too. All I know is that you and I have a dad. A heavenly Father that loves us and cares about the things we care about. He wants us to come to Him with all our problems. He wants to be there for us. He is waiting everyday for us to come. He also wants to hear our joy and our gratefulness.

I know I used to think I can’t pray I don’t know what words to use. Well let me set you free on that one. Just talk to God the way you would talk to me or anyone else.

There is so much power in prayer. Do you have someone that you would trust with everything?

OK picture that person and then picture that person with all power to do anything we ask or need. How would you go to that person? How would you make your requests know to him/her?

That is how we go to God.  There is power in the name of Jesus. And so we go to God in the name of Jesus. Prayer can be for comfort, it can also be used as a weapon.

You can pray over someone you love and know that Jesus hears all your prayers. He will answer them. Don’t think I have not had what felt like unanswered prayers. I feel like it sometimes but remember we don’t always ask for what is good for us and Jesus knows best. We see what is just ahead, Jesus sees the whole picture.

I know for sure if I had known what I know now back when my dad and I were going out to breakfast, I would have been able to pray for him to be released from addictions and he would have been a different person. Doug (Hubbie) prayed for me daily to get saved. He wanted me to be a Godly wife and boy did he get an answer. Radical. Radical! Be careful what you pray for you may get it. HaHa.

Power is having a relationship with Jesus, I can go to my heavenly Father and pray and He has the power to answer my prayer. I am still praying? Yes the word says pray without ceasing

1 Thessalonians 5 (New King James Version)

. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

So that means to keep praying till you get an answer. Never give up. There are several types of prayer.

There is:

  • Prayer for forgiveness

  • Warfare

  • Praying for others

  • For a situation in our lives

  • For salvation for self or someone else

  • Strength

  • Wisdom
  • Healing

So many prayers, too many to name right now, but as we go we will cover some of these prayers.

For now if you need help in this area or you need someone to pray with you
